OK, so I just posted this in Scott's Altadis thread, so I thought I'd put it out there. I would say at someone's house (I will volunteer my house, or show up, either way) would be best. What say you?!

Well since I don't have a house in Denver till September, I say that rules me out this time around...

But I am more than willing to show up and bring some good stuff to grill... Just let me know.

Kewl!!

If we can get some advance commitment, I'll get some free cigars coming from Altadis. Post on all the boards once the date is set. I have to go to Canada sometime in August, but don't have those dates yet either.

Dual citizenship here. Born and raised in CO, but if I have to go to Canada to stay, healthcare on the state after 90 days of residency. That's 'plan B'.

Mert, I know its early and all but if my schedule means anything could we avoid the 16th/17th weekend? Got a race that Sunday I want to do and won't have time to smoke, eat, drink or have fun.

LordOfWu

OK, it's time to plan this bad boy! So, what dates work for everyone? Obviously Dave has listed his unavailable dates (16th/17th)...

Second, are we set on a place? Is my house good for everyone? I don't have a huge backyard, and I just have a plain old gas grill, no smokers or fancy stuff. I'd love to have everyone over, but if someone has a better idea I'm all ears!

So lets figure a date and get a list started of who's coming and who's bringing what!

Well... august will start to get a bit tight for me... we are busy packing stuff up and getting ready to move out... so any date is okay with me since they will all be tentative. I will do my best to make any date you choose but the closer it gets to the end of august, the harder it will probably be...

LordOfWu
07-30-2008, 10:21 AM
OK, how about I toss out a date...say the 23rd, and we'll start from there. It's not the 16th, and it's not the last weekend in August...c'mon, work with me people!

LOL... well like I said, I wanna come but I can't guarantee anything... the 23rd we are having a POD delivered so we will be able to start packing stuff in it... might be a bit crazy that weekend... but the weekend of the 8th I am going to be out of town... and dave can't do the weekend of the 16th... so I say just stick with the 23rd and if I can't make it then hopefully I will be the only one!! 8)

I don't have much of a house or back yard. But I do have the open area greenbelt behind the townhouses if it comes to that.

OK, so it's the 23rd, at my house, and I have the following attendees:

Dave
Scott
Jamie
Ray

Please add your name to the list so we can have a good idea of who's coming...and if you have something specific you would like to bring, put it down as well...may as well get our mouth's watering early!!!

zmancbr
07-31-2008, 03:21 PM
I can bring pretty much anything... but I was leaning toward bringing some desserts. I can think of a couple of really good ones to bring such as Orange Delight (an orange flavored whipped dessert)...

Of course I could bring some tasty pasta as well... I know how to make a killer Caesar tortellini... and a very good Pasta italiano.

Does that make it water yet?

Dave - something about meat to smoke?
Scott - brings whatever we need (can anyone say one of his coolers? )
Jamie - didn't say, but maybe some jambalaya?
Ray - beer
Zach (getting more certain all the time!) - deserts or pasta
Gary
Mert (almost forgot myself  ) - burgers and brats, hot dogs if anyone brings their kids

I did want to clarify, this is certainly allowed to be a family affair, my wife and kids will be there, so feel free to bring the whole family. Oh, but please let me know so I can adjust food quantities

Jamie, Thanks so much for the ping. Trying to keep up with all the boards and life isn't working so well lately.

Well, folks...the 23rd is the ONLY August weekend we are not available (wedding in Loveland to attend). Timing this summer is terrible with trying to meet up with y'all. If I didn't have withdrawl before, I may after this one. Perhaps we can catch up in September...will look forward to the next gathering.

Until then...happy smoke trails.

Yeah... I have had a #2 and I wasn't real impressed... call me crazy but the ones I mentioned are my favs right now...

Every RASS I get I just can't stop smoking and the RyJ cedros de luxe #2 was awesome. reminded me of a really good RASS but different. I haven't had more than one of hte RyJs yet... but I have had 5+ of the RASS and love them. I will of course give the Montes another chance (I have only had the one monte #2 and I believe one more monte) but it doesn't look good!

Edited to add... and the plus side is I can get a box of 24 of either of the RASS or the Ryj for about $150ish... much better value than the monte...

Sometime in the future I would like to meet up with you guys(Havana manor is a great place!), but with working, going to school and renovating our house I do not seem to have the time to do anything else :(

Hell with that, your Dr. called, he said you have the day off.

Well, odds are you have to eat at some point that day. Stop through and have something to eat with us. Then you can find a shorty to take up during your study break and before you come over, assemble something in the house that needs to dry and spend the drying time finishing your stick.

I tried to talk my gf into coming but she wanted nothing to do with it lol... so it will still just be me as well...

Well, Mrs. Brew WANTS to come along, but she sort of got a better offer than sitting around a backyard with a bunch of old (and young) farts sucking on ignited vegatation sticks and eating roasted animal flesh. :P

What could be better than that?!? I mean seriously, how could anything get any better than that!?! I think I'm offended!

I think it's a simple case of misplaced priorities, and I plan to make her pay. Not really. She looked at the pic of Zach's tupperdor and salivated over those fruity sticks. She's afraid you all will ridicule her for smoking Tatiana Cappuccino cigarillos.

Seriously, give the fetching Mrs. Brew a break. She's going to a herf preceded by dinner at The Famous Steak House in Colo Spgs the following evening. Afterward, she gets to hang out with a bunch of old farts sucking on ignited vegetation sticks. Of course, she gets to dine on the best roasted animal flesh dished in this city beforehand. Besides, the owner of the sponsoring B&M likes to bring her flavored sticks he thinks she'll like. I think he's sweet on Mrs. Brew, and I'm trying to figure out how to work a couple of boxes of Padrons out of the situation. See, I have my priorities in order.

I was thinking that myself... we could do a larger brewery tour or a small one... we have:

new Belgium
Odell brewing company
Budweiser
Fort Collins brewery

and all of these are within minutes of each other except budwesier which is 10 minutes up the road...

Update

Dave (+1) - something about meat to smoke?
Scott - side and non-alcoholic beverages
Jamie - Linguisa (Portuguese Sausage)
Ray (+1) - beer
Zach - deserts or pasta
Gary - "watermelons" and beer
Peter (+1) - Chicken for grillin', buns and maybe a salad
Mike (maybe +1)
Ryan (for a wee bit)
Fred
Jerry
Matt (milkman on CS) (+1) - will be there after 7:00...has to work
Wayne Miner (works w/ me, not on either board) - "soft drinks, some beer and chips and things like that"
Mert - BBQ Chicken (This may change yet again :D ), hot dogs if anyone brings their kids
Repeated instructions:

Everyone bring a lawn chair (I'll have some seating if you don't have one, but not enough for everyone)
We still need more people bringing beverages, both alcoholic and otherwise.
Beyond that it looks like all we need is maybe some more side dishes (chips, salsa, fruit plates, etc). So let me know what you're bringing, otherwise just bring yourself and enjoy!

Bump on the list, If you're bringing something copy + paste add here please, becase this is what Mert probably refers back to.

No I think CFRH rule 132, subpart 3, paragraph 6, line 2 states that unless wearing kleenex boxes for slippers, a lampshade for a codpiece and a hello kitty tshirt; all first contest winnings must be settled in person.

This can be overruled by rule 189, subpart 6, paragraph 45 line 9 which states that upon the second Thursday of the week following a full moon on a Sunday in a month which has a 'Q' in it; don't gotta cuz my wife tells me that if I get one more thing blowing the porch off the house you have to sleep with in the horse pasture.

LOL... well apparently I'm good enough at the Oral part of the exams... cuz I am pretty sure I was top 3 and should get an interview... I'm so close to getting that job I can taste it... Okay bad pun lol... 8)

Good thoughts headed your way. I hope the phone rings today. Good luck!

Thanks... it would be a huge relief to find work down there and not have to drive to Cheyenne everyday after we move down south... 8)

Me to he said.

We have to do a puff puff pass tomorrow. I'm going to bring a fine cigar that papajohn67 gifted me. :x
Everytime I offered to let someone taste what I was smoking, they looked at me like I had two heads or something. I can't wait to try it.

What a great time!!! Thanks again Mert for the hospitality. Thanks to all of you that gifted me cigars, it was nice to see so many FRH all together. The PPP was incredible, getting to try so many great cigars just blew my mind. It was great to meet Jerry and Wayne and to see Ryan again. The food, what can I say about the food? David, you are a master, that brisket was spectacular and I could have ate a whole plate of those ribs. I gotta have the recipe for the pasta salad Zach. Thanks for the updates Fred, I am really looking forward to the herf in Fort Collins and getting the opportunity to meet Jamie and his crew.

Mert, thank you and your lovely wife for a wonderful afternoon and evening. The food, cigars and conversation were excellent as always. I can only echo what Jamie has already said.

For those that wanted to know. John Henry's Old Chisolm Trail Rub was on the brisket. I can't seem to find it on their website but here it is: http://www.johnhenrysfoodproducts.com/index.html

We had a great time tonight! Thanks Mert and Michelle for your hospitality, you have a great home to share. I too really enjoyed the PPPs, great way to try new cigars and see them develop as they're smoked.

Thank you everyone for the spectacular FRH BBQ Herf! Thanks so much to our hosts, Mert, Michelle and the kids. You have a wonderful home. Thank you everyone for the great conversation, the stories, the wonderful cigars and the incredible spread of food. There was so much good food that I didn't even get to try because I filled myself up early on the brisket and ribs. Thank you for the gifted cigars, everyone, and the ring gauge, Fred.

I also want to thank Ray for the cool UV light. The wavelength is perfect and the light works like a charm. I could find no UV coat of arms watermark on 00 - 02 boxes, Ray, so I am sure you are correct in that they were started sometime after that. Thanks again.

Was great to finally meet the Motley Crew, even if it was only for a few minutes. Thanks to all of you that smacked me in the brief time I was there. Next time I'll be sure to have more time available!

Thank you all for coming, it was a blast!!! This will likely become an annual event for me, and once it gets too big we'll do it at a park or something!

Now, while most of you who came were perfectly well mannered guests, apparently this was not the case for all of you    As I came in to sort and organize all the gifted sticks and Troop Support sticks, something was not quite right...my humi was gone!!!!! It was a clever attempt to hide the said humidor behind the curtain in my office, you friggin' bastages! And when I open it, I got a little suprise...apparently someone (post whore queen) wanted to send me on a completely different slope...peach flavored I think it was! Dammit! Oh, and one of you snuck an extra fiver in there too...you conniving iceholes! I have my thoughts on who may be the culprits, and your names are definitely going on a list!

LOL... who would ever hide a man's humi? That is just plain rude lol... oh and I actually left all of the flavored sticks in the garage so someone could have got a hold of them besides me...

Mert and Michelle, thanks for making Saturday afternoon the highlight of an awesome weekend. Your hospitality was "Front Range" class, which is a few notches above world class. You guys have a great place that exudes comfort and welcome. I kinda enjoyed moving into the garage for awhile too (that just couldn't happen at my place).

As for the rest of you guys, your generosity was stunning. The sticks I was gifted were all excellent. I can't wait to meet again so I can return some of the favors. I also thought The PPPs were very, very cool.

Thanks also to Dave and Peter for the new (to me) BBQ'd treats. Loved the brisket, loved the tandoori chicken! Fred, thanks for the ring gauge and Ray, for the light.

Ray...I haven't looked in my cooler yet, but I think you left your beer in there. If so...I'll bring ya a 12 of FT next time.

You guys are awesome. (sniff, sniff)

How could that ever happen? Especially when he was sitting on it the entire time guarding it with his swords?

 If you got white owled that sounds like an issue with humidor security. Next time maybe you'll make those kids earn their keep.

I had such a good time, Mert, Michelle is obviously an awesome lady for letting us invade her home like that. Hope we can do it again next year!
