So, I redid my kitchen/dining room and have a nice bar/buffet that would look pretty nice with a desktop humi on top...
My questions:
http://www.cheaphumidors.com/GLASSHUMIDORS.html - Is Glass tough to regulate?
Are desktop humis in general a pain in the ass?
Should I not skimp and get a humi from someone else, or is cheaphumi.com a pretty good source?

I don't have a lot of experience with desktops, but I'd say you get what you pay for. I bought a cheap desktop for my 1st humi, and after about two months it wouldn't hold humidity above 55%...even with a large bowl of distilled water sitting in it.
It now sits open in my cooler...and is as useful as a few empty cigar boxes.

Yeah, that's been my experience w/ the shitty Thompson Cigars one I had.
Would beads/sheets/crystals do the trick?

Ethan,
I owned the Valencia humidor on that link below and iy worked great for a year... I sold it and bought my cabinet...now I just bought the Sau Souci from that site for a dry boxing area and it is also holding humidity well...both of them I have used only beads in.
If you want one of those humis pm me before you buy...if you're patient you can find them for about half off on CBID...but it may take a month or two to wait for the right deal...

I'll give you a humi you can play with. I have 2 in decent shape but missing the trays. They are more difficult to regulate but should be ok with some TLC. All of my singles are in coolers now. Either would require re-seasoning. Only 1 has glass. This is the other ... http://www.cheaphumidors.com/HUM-300GR.html

Appreciate it, but I've got very strict regulations on what it can look like :-P (those housewives of mine, they have high expectations for what my house can look like...)
Black or very dark wood, and unfortunately, not much more than a 100 count... If that fits the bill, I'd be VERY glad to borrow it from you. If not, I'm sorry to say that I'll have to pass...

They are both 300 ct. Let me know if you change your mind.

Thanks again for your generous offer. If I got a new humi, what would you recommend to keep it stabilized? Beads and properly seasoning the wood? Or.....?
Beads! I just left my end table and cooler for over a week and they did not move a % point up or down.

Excellent. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to properly season a humi, or should I just google it? I know there are plenty of guides out there, I'm just not sure if you guys like one over another. :big_boss:

Lots of salt, but I also like a little basil and garlic thrown in for good measure.

Will garlic salt work, or do I need to use salt, and then garlic? ;)
