So I while back I was reaching the end of tin of squadron leader, and I remembered that I had a bit of a cigar left over from when I noticed some mold (moisture had been pooling in one area of the cooler, adjusting the placement of my beads solved the problem. The mold had reached the foot so I ended up cutting the cigar in half. Not wanting to waste quality tobacco I held onto remains of the cigar. I took some of the cigar and cut it up until it was as close as I could get to ribbon consistency. Mixed that in with about three bowlfuls of squadron leader, wrapped it up in paper and foil and put it under some chests of camping equipment for a few weeks. That resulted in something like a small crumble cake. I put that in an empty 50 gram McClelland tin, added some moisture with a wet paper towel, then after removing the paper towel sealed the tin with some duct tape and left it to sit for a couple months.

Today marks the end of a rather long and stressful week. I looked at the tin and figured why not, loaded up a cob and added fire. I think it could benefit from some more time, but the flavors are starting to meld and I have to say the resulting smoke is very nice. I would describe it almost like smoking a cigar while sitting very close to a campfire. It has a very creamy and chewy quality that is hitting the spot this evening, night, morning. All the different qualities are there, but at varying times the cigar leaf, latakia, or the other orientals in this mad mixture come to the forefront. Also, smoking very cooly with no bite.

Not too shabby for a first try at mixing different tobaccos. Already halfway through the bowl and regretting not doing proper measurements to keep track of this mixture. If I were to guess, I would say that it was a one to three ratio of cigar leaf to squadron leader.

Thanks for reading my crazy midnight ramblings.

A worthy experiment and sounds like a good result, Daniel. I had thought about this but never considered pressing it. I feel I would try to not let it dry out too much. I'd like to hear how this does with other pipe tobacco blends.
