Attending a conference at CU today. We had two hours of lunch scheduled so I took the opportunity to enjoy the great weather we're having. Sat on a bench in front of Eaton Humanities and spent an enjoyable hour. No pictures because I forgot my camera at home.

The cigar:

From what I've been told the Ambos Mundos line is Pete Johnson's attempt at a budget minded long filler cigar. The tobacco is grade B, nothing actually wrong with it besides some cosmetic blemishes.

I've been curious about these cigars for a bit so a couple of weeks ago I picked up a Sumatra and a Habano (both robustos) at HMS.

This one was the Sumatra (#2, or the one with a red band with yellow lettering).

The construction was impeccable. Not sure where these cosmetic blemishes are, the wrapper looked very nice. A couple of large veins, but no other issues. A great triple cap, which I gave a close shave.

The pre-light draw sort of tasted like raisins, or at least that is what first came to mind.

In all fairness I might have messed up the light since the wind kicked up just as I got outside.

The very beginning was a bit harsh. Purging helped, but really the harshness died down after about the first inch.

The main thing I was getting at this point was wood and coffee, but still a bit muted.

About one third to half way through the cigar the spice that I've come to expect from Pepin blended cigars finally showed up. Nothing too strong, but some white pepper on the tongue. The coffee (along with an earthy aspect) started to come to the forefront. These flavors stayed constant till the end of the cigar. Not the most complex cigar, but still good.

I only had to ash this cigar once, and by then at least half the cigar was ash.

All in all I would say that this cigar has potential. Spot on construction, medium bodied, with some interesting flavors.

However, this cigar is young. Flavors were a bit muted, and at some points I could taste ammonia. I feel that after some age (or maybe just some rest) this could be a great cigar for the price point.

Still it gave me a hour of relaxation and that's what I was looking for.

Next up (but not sure when) the Ambos Mundos Havana (#1).

Nice review Daniel, thanks for taking the time to give us a heads up on what sound like another fine Pete Johnson cigar.
