View Full Version : Group Buy Thoughts

I debated on where to put this, so I thought I'd put it here cuz my head hurt too much to think about it anymore.

So what is the general thoughts or opinions on combining shipping on some of the group buys that I see going on to see if we can get things even cheaper and possibly easier on the person organizing the buy? An example being the CS pins. I figure we're starting to see each other more often so I can't really be so desperate for something that I can't wait a couple weeks more.

Thoughts?

Interesting thought, I think that is one of the very reasons that this forum now exists. Fred has really created something special here that gives us in the Front Range some exciting prospects for group buys, splits, discounts with local cigar shops and many other possibilities. I am looking forward to seeing where this goes and giving it as much support as I am capable.

I think it's a great idea!

What are we gonna buy first?

I would be interested in AF 858 maddies...

Sounds like a good concept...and getting deals is ideal for those of us on a budget! But my budget for this month is pretty well, blown, so I'll look forward to something in April!

I would be interested in those as well, but I need to figure out how to do it without Colleen finding out. :P

I like the idea. I am curtailed until after the 15th but would have great interest in some group buying. I have decided that a temporary coolerdor is in order until I can get things together enough and make up my mind on what to build. Having gotten very slow and only having the once in a while smoke for several years, I found I don't know what I used to know about what is out therre and like things a bit more full bodied and spicer than I once did.

Having some other inputs into purchases is a great idea. Course I've known OpusX for about 12 years and he does have a good idea sometimes.

858 Maduro (http://tampasweetheart.com/?page=shop/flypage&product_id=30&category_id=5987963e724997ae68362b964af5da51&PHPSESSID=4bbf7dfaabf81a567906eb20e8a24a8c)

CI has them for $93.75 per box of 25 or $187.50 for two. :D

I can't come up with the $100 or $200 right now but could come up with enough for a fiver or two.

Wanna see what they'll do for us on Sunday? Or at least talk about it....

LordOfWu

So I think we missed the discussion last Sunday, but I could do 5 or 10 as well...

count me in interested in splitting the costs and trying different types of cigars.

opusfxd
03-23-2008, 07:28 PM
Well I just looked on Famous and there's a box of 8-5-8 Maddies for $89.99 delivered. Cigar Town had them for $85 but wanted 6.50 to ship. I'm more familiar with Famous so that also tips the scales that way. That's $3.60 per stick.

Anyone interested?

I'll take a 5er of that!

I think it was my 20th (or 23rd) post too, we might need to have a contest at 100, that is the first one to hit 100 posts I will send a fiver. I will post a contest thread.

LordOfWu
03-24-2008, 03:25 PM
I think you might be the one w/ the most posts (besides Fred probably)...so are you going to send yourself a fiver?

I'm not going to post whore...I'll edit this post...

If no one calls out for the final fiver, I'll take it...probably give it a few days, but if that's going to hold us back I'll go with it

Even with all the blatant off topic post padding, we still have one left in the box. (Like this is helpful, but I've seen gorilla math - are we still gorillas here?)

LordOfWu
03-24-2008, 05:32 PM
How many are in the box? I thought I called the last one if no one else wanted it?!? That should be 5 fivers, yes?

opusfxd
03-24-2008, 08:37 PM
25. That box is done. Now I just have to get it ordered.

Now we need to figure out when we can get together to get you paid.

LordOfWu
03-25-2008, 10:54 AM
I know of a fine B&M down on Washington and 6th that might provide the correct type of atmosphere for the transaction

That is if the place hasn't collapsed from all of the troop cigars Fred's been putting in there!

LordOfWu
03-25-2008, 01:47 PM
Looks like Fred is planning on heading down there (the bunker :) ) Friday night, we could meet up and pay for our parts of the initial split at that point, yeah? When are the sticks coming in?

jcarlton
03-25-2008, 05:23 PM
Friday sounds good to me but I can't get there until 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM.

LordOfWu
03-25-2008, 05:25 PM
CRAP! You mean I might have to stay longer and smoke more!?!? Dammit, why you gotta treat me like...oh, wait...that's ok, I'm cool with it.

opusfxd
03-25-2008, 08:59 PM
Ok, there was a slight snafu on these. I didn't see the little itty bitty N showing their availability from Famous. However after much face saving scrambling around I found them over at Taboo with a 20% discount. :D End result was the same plus I ordered myself a 5'er of the Sumatra Robustos to keep them all company. Since these guys are so freaking awesome they throw in freebies, I'm think I'm getting a lighter, cutter (this is going to the troops), Connie's cookies, and some golf tees (I'll throw these into the prize pool for the golf tourney). So however long standard shipping is, that's when we'll get them. Who knows if Friday or not? I'll post the tracking as soon as I get it.

LordOfWu
03-25-2008, 09:06 PM
WHEW! That first sentence had me worried! I've been daydreaming of 858 maddies, ease up on me!

Oh, and I'm still ahead of you

opusfxd
03-25-2008, 09:13 PM
Oh there's no easing up on you. Full court press of weirdness!

This shipped out today so looks like it too should be here in time for the 4/1 smokedown.

LordOfWu
03-28-2008, 10:17 AM
I have no doubts about the folks at Taboo...I wouldn't be suprised if it showed up today...not that you'll be heading home first to check or anything...will ya?

opusfxd
03-28-2008, 11:41 AM
No chance in that. I'll bet you aren't either. Just one more reason for 4/1! :)

opusfxd

Guess what was waiting? I'll bet you figured that though. Those guys at Taboo are awesome!!

So, we really have to get together on Tuesday then...the 5 Vegas side should be here on Monday!

opusfxd
03-30-2008, 08:49 AM
Yup. Although it may not have to be a quick, get off work and run right over meeting does it? I've got another box coming in that day maybe. Meet at the Bunker?

jcarlton
03-30-2008, 10:55 AM
It's about a 45 minute drive from work for me so I may not be able to get there until 6:00 or 6:30. :|

LordOfWu
03-30-2008, 05:03 PM
Is that cool, Jamie? Is there somewhere slight closer that would be better to meet (since we may not have a quorum for the raffle drawing)?

jcarlton
03-30-2008, 05:37 PM
Let me see what my schedule looks like tomorrow and see if I can maybe drive my personal vehicle to one of our facilities in Lakewood on Tuesday. In that case I could get to the bunker earlier. What time can you and David get there?

opusfxd
03-30-2008, 05:45 PM
If work behaves, I can get there about 430.

LordOfWu
03-31-2008, 12:06 PM
I can leave work around 4:00, so 4:30 - 4:45. Since we're not doing the drawing is there a better location?

jcarlton
03-31-2008, 12:45 PM

I posted this in the other thread as well but, we could do this at my place and get a chance to open that Colorado Whiskey that much sooner. :P

My place is pretty far east, Tower and Hampden in Aurora. If this is good with you guys let me know and I will PM the address. If not no big deal, I will try to get to cigars on sixth as early as posible on Tuesday. I think I will call Dave and ask about the cost of a box rental that way we could just leave stuff for eachother.

LordOfWu
03-31-2008, 01:57 PM
I think a FRH box would be cool! I am good with either place, I'm more centrally located than the two of you...just tell me where and when!

03-31-2008, 08:50 PM
hmmm, a frh box. interesting idea.
