so I was talking to one of my friends at work the other day and we got on the subject of cigars, he tells me that he used to smoke cigars often before his heart troubles and had a humi full of cigars that he just let dry out in the garage probably 4 years ago.
well today he brought me the humi filled with the dried out sticks!!
any chance these can be saved? there is a opus x in there, probably 10 yello celli AF finas, some glass tube partigas and some others
advice? jokes? comments?

That's a shame. I don't know why people don't find a home for their sticks if they are forced to give them up. You can certainly try to by rehumidifying very slowly. They are almost certainly a total loss due to our semi-arid climate. Promise to take pictures of lighting them up in 6 months.

yeah a total shame! even some cc love in there
from what I have read on CS it seems far fetched to get them back to 'good' condition so im not holding any high hopes.
ill probably just take the ones mentioned and try a rehydro experiment on them.. im thinking ill keep them in the humi they came in just to prevent any contamination from mold or whathaveyou

Take out the cigars so you can clean the cedar with a damp rag (use distilled water only). Fill a little bowl with distilled water and let it sit in the humi until the humidity gets to the level of your choice. Put your beads in and it's ready (so long as the humi seals correctly). As for the cigars I'd put about 10 or so in a gallon ziplock baggie with a dried out Boveda pack or a dried out water pillow. Put a small amount of distilled water into a small container, put it in and seal the baggie. My theory her is that the dried out pack or pillow will absorb some of the humidity from the water while the cigars will absorb the rest, thus allowing the cigars to re-acclimate slowly and not get shocked immediately with humidity. I by no means am an expert in this department so if any of these guys can add or subtract to this process, please do.
I know they can be saved as I've had friends do it before, and I've also been told that they don't quite ever go back to their original greatness (as in the Opus X).
Good luck!

yeah its going to be a process.. hahaha and probably not a fruitful one.. oh well it was a kind gesture thats for sure!
im thinking ill keep a handful of these dry sticks around in case any of my non stogie buddies ever wanna try a cigar

Can't hurt to try and save them, so why not. Sounds like Ryan has a pretty good plan to slowly re-humidify .
Good luck, and I too would be interested to see pics at the end of this experiment.

ill make sure to take some pics throughout the process so we can add to the scientific validity of experement: rehydro reslow retard

I'll admit to having a tray that is in the bottom of my humi that I once forgot about oh so many years ago. I'm working on letting these sit around to rehydrate. Tried one a while back, wasn't great didn't totally suck. I think maybe I'll try another here after while on about their 1st anniversary of being moistened again.
Good luck with yours!

alrighty update time
so i had these stogies sitting in a zip lock bag with a tray of water and one of my digital hygrometers since around the 20th of September... I had been checking them regularly, rotating them and getting some air circulation probably 1 or 2 times a week. I was checking the RH pretty much every day to make sure it wasnt going to high and it was pretty consistent around 67-70 for the most part.
yesterday I was checking on them and found a bit of black & gray mold in the water tray.. fuck it, i tossed them all
glad i didnt put any of them in my desktop or coolador!
