OK, so I have some time this fine Easter morning, so I thought I'd start a banter thread...just because!
We're cooking up a turkey today...I know, it's not traditional Easter fare, but we really like turkey and you really need an event to cook one of these things up!
Happy Easter everybody!

I'm home alone at the moment. The wife went to visit her family and we will have dinner later today. Were going to grill something.
Happy Easter to you and yours.

I'm finally home able to relax (except for the household duties like cleaning and laundry) after a hectic weekend. Spent Friday night into Saturday morning smoking some meat for my girlfriend's suprise birthday party we threw her. Turned out quite good and I have a bit left, not suprising considering all the rest of the food I cooked up AND it was 15 pounds of pork shoulder. Anyone else ever grill in a snowfall?
Today was visit the parent's for lunch and then over to the gf's for dinner.

So if we meet up this week to help Fred w/ Troop cigars, you treating us to leftovers? :D

Dude! I am so sorry!!! Been there done that Peoplesoft implemenation. I'd rather pass a kidney stone I think. I've got some stories for the next herf looks like. I've got leftovers. BTW, if you haven't tried it go to Brother's BBQ and try the pulled pork. When you do; close one eye, tilt your head and try a version of the Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce. Trust me!

'Close one eye and tilt your head'?!? What is this, some sort of bbq sobriety test?!?
I'm definitely coming down w/ something...I sound like a 90 year old chain smoker today! Not feeling too bad today, was a bit rough yesterday. Nonetheless I'm at work... {sigh}

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Now you can come over to my place and help me dig out!! I've got to produce an assessment for physician credentialing system from moronic vendors that can't answer my questions, redesign things after their presentation and of course lets toss in a fax server at the last minute.
Oh did I mention my office usually hovers in the mid to upper 70's. Sometimes we see 80s!
LordOfWu
03-25-2008, 09:10 PM
1. Are there other kinds of vendors (besides moronic)?
2. I feel you on the office temps...when I was out at Rocky Flats the entire HVAC was shut down and replaced with these odd mobile units...day usually started out in the high 50's low 60's and ended up in the low 80's! We brought in a temp tracker and showed 4 days of 20+ degrees swing and got us out of there!
Hope to see you on Friday!

So, while reading "Steve & Me", the biography of Steve Irwin, there's a quote in there from one of the times things weren't going well that summed up how I've felt at FDC for a while.
"Crocodiles are easy, they try to kill and you. People are harder. Sometimes they pretend o be your friend first."
Glad to say, It's nice having FRH friends...don't have to worry about getting eaten!

Get outta my head dude! I need to go for a bike ride when it gets a bit warmer, get my kids and then kick back a little later with a fine first nice day of spring celebratory stick. Maybe a RyJ someone gave me. :D
opusfxd
03-29-2008, 09:55 PM
OMG!! What a beautiful day. I put in a 15.5 mile bike ride, just as the wind started up of course, and then I went and got the kids. What do they want to do? Go to the park of course. I'm in! So what a better way to spend two hours in the park watching my kids play? Getting to know a RyJ that some uberposter was kind enough to gift me. Thanks Mert!! Made a good afternoon even better. It's been a long time since I took one down that far.
Downsides for the day - I was putting on my arm warmers (it was chilly when I started riding - oh they're like detached sleeves while you ride a bike so they can come off when you get hot) and my hand slipped and hit myself in the mouth. Been a while since I had a bloody lip. It looks like spicy and salty are out for dinner for a while.
#2 didn't get squat else done because we were playing all afternoon.
#3 I found out my 7 year old is grounded from TV and video games for a month because he gave the 10 year old the bird yesterday in Target. To think I was going to take them to see Horton Hears a Who. Oh well, there's always dvd someday.
LordOfWu

So if anyone's wife or girlfriend signs your kids up for school, take them out for a hand massage and dinner. I signed my kids up for the summer program today and it was worse than when I bought my house. I'm a mouse clicking keyboard jockey and forty minutes of filling out forms asking details such as my kids' dentist's phone number and shoe size was a bit extreme. I thought it was going to be a put their name on a list kind of thing. Nope. Oh well, another event appreciating the plight of the single parent. (I've only got a week and a half of it)

I still can't run for @#$#@. I could have maybe made it under an hour if I was able to run. I guess I'll find out in a day or so when the post the results.
But now, a smoke for the afternoon!!! I've been holding off for a while just for this. I wonder what I'll have? Maybe something new.

So I received a serious bummer today. I've been planning and training for the Hy-Vee triathlon in Des Moines in about a week. Everything from having the doctor fixing up my knee to training like crazy (btw, the doc said I'd rather you not run at all). Due to the flooding in Iowa, they've changed it to a run 10K bike 40k and run 5k. So that's out along with my entry fee.
I don't even know if I want to deal with the trip and expense to see my Grandma.

Well, I'm back from Reno. What a trip...but hey, I stopped by Fumadore and they have a great selection (picked up my first GOF!) and I grabbed 6 sticks I haven't had before. I found a shop called Hatuey, they apparently only sell their own cigars so I picked up a couple, smoked one and it was quite nice (although they called it full-flavored, but came across more medium to me). Last stop was Tinder Box, grabbed a few there (they had Opus X at pretty good prices, but went a little cheaper still).
But, I'm glad to be back...even though it looks like my house will be decimated before the end of the week!

Well... I suppose I better start thinking of something huh... lol. I am still hoping I find something down there before September but if I don't, then the drive will only take about 35 minutes more than the one I make now... so it isn't the end of the world... but the gas will cost me dearly. I figure I will put 180 miles a day there and back and an average of 4 days a week is 720 miles a week or in gas terms about $80 a week in gas...
But I really should start bringing a cigar for the drive home lol... it will make it much more relaxing...

I am soooooo ready for the weekend! Going to go watch a Jiu Jitsu tournament tomorrow where some guys from my school are competing. Other than that, no real plans other than just relaxing. And to top it off, only one week until I leave for Alaska! This is turning out to be a pretty good summer, I have to admit!

Nice. I feel like I'm getting my butt handed to me all the time waiting for a time to relax.
Looks like my girlfriend joined the Zman club yesterday. She was driving down the aisle of Good Sam's parking lot after work and somebody cut through parking spaces and used their Geo Storm to take out her left rear wheel. She's ok but the car needed to be towed and that suspension is about all that's damaged but still undriveable. The kicker is just how you'd guess it would be; contractor working on the fifth floor of the hospital, neither one spoke english, driver didn't have a license and the insurance was through his sister the car owner. Of course its private property so no ticket was issued.
Let's see how this one turns out.

Yeah Alaska does run a tight ship on their fishing industry.... that's the good news...the bad is the ocean is not the best place for dumping trash but that's where a $hit load of it goes...
And F*** no I'm not going to that shithole called boulder lol... Most of the people there I would bitch slap lol.... They take things too far... I do like to do my part because it makes good economical sense...
It is far cheaper for me to drive a car that gets 38 MPG than one that gets 20... it is a lot cheaper to use CFL bulbs to save a ton on my electric bill... and using a programmable thermostat helps reduce energy use by 30% or more.... all this leads to less money wasted and less going to foreign countries.... The added bonus is the environment gets a boost also.

Many responses to that one:
1) I'm no expert but check with Peter, that's not a salmon
2) Would you like your Filet o' Fish supersized?
3) I'd like to show you all my new Fishador, holds about 300 boxes and is really waterproof
4) How big was the worm?
5) An extreme example of "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish he'll eat for a lifetime"
6) Finally a mouth big enough to consider a Nub 'too small for its mouth'
I'm done for now.

I've had this issue a few times with laptops and I'm a the point where I can solve the issue most of the time:
1. Wipe HD
2. Reinstall everything -Make sure you spend hours getting drivers right
3. When your about to boot it for the first time after everything is set up, toss your computer into a full bath tub.

So imagine my suprise when I make the turn onto the street and basically find a gravel road with piles of that gravely stuff. Nasty stuff to be riding on, especially in dress pants on a street bike.

Well... threre is the problem... all ya had to do was say Gateway... they shouldn't be around too much longer at their current rate of shittyness lol...

I heard Zach is going to be autographing his autobiography at the BBQ Herf. PWing for fun and profit.
I've heard it's a pretty thick book but not too much content.
