Just thought I'd throw this one out there since it is 5:43pm and 73 degF on my balcony... Not bad for Nov 1st & definitely great smoking weather!!!
Pre-dinner I'm just about finished with a Tat Reserva J-21 that Dawn picked up for me in Texas earlier this year... Its been a while since I grabbed a Tat & this dark oily cigar didn't disappoint. A little one-dimensional throughout, but had good flavor with tons of leather & a touch of spice. I have made a few trips inside to grab a beverage etc & the burn hasn't skipped a beat. Not something that I would smoke all the time considering their cost & what else is out there, but tasty none the less.
Now my only problem is deciding what to smoke after dinner...

RyJ Regalas de Londres while raking leaves today. Not bad for MM. Slightly tight draw but no worry. Decent flavor but got hot since I left it in my mouth and kept drawing while I worked. That's it.

Today I had a bowl of Wessex Burley Slice after lunch... I think Burleys get a bad wrap for the most part from some pipe smokers. I enjoy quite a few of the tinned blends like Wessex BS, Solani Aged Burley Flake and Esoterica Stonehaven.
Tonight I smoked a RyJ Cedros De Lux #1 (Thanks Fred!) before dinner. I can see myself trying a few more of these 8) Mild, but very flavorful! After some tasty fish tacos I'm enjoying a LFdC PC... Good day!

saturday i enjoyed
a Tatuaje VI - really tasty little smoke while reading up on American political thought
then in the late afternoon Jamie was kind enough to kick me down a Party Short for delivering the Franks.. Gotta say this is an awesome little power house imo. I think i like the H Upmann and the SLR a little better but still a great stck
then after cracking out 5 (out of 10 total) pages on Plato's two world metaphysics I got down on a Cohiba red dot robusto.. tasty and powerful!
yesterday i had a ashton mini cigarillo... just didnt have the time to get in on a real sized stick.. oh well..

I went to a VMWare user group that just happened to be about right across the street from HMS. Stopped in, grabbed one of my Angeles for me and my coworker, sat for a few minutes to get things started and then had a smoke on the way back to work.

Not quite the mini powerhouse as the Coronitas en Cedro, eh Peter?
I smoked a '07 RASCC today. I pulled it out of the box a week or two ago and it sure felt tight. It sat in the 50 count since (not quite a dry box) and when cut, the draw was firm and perfect. Very tasty, full body, and altogether yummy.

On the first tee yesterday, I fired up my first Frank. This was a very nice cigar with full flavor to the nub. There was a little spice up front but it settled down to a very tasty and smooth cigar. Next up on the 10th was a Pepin Blue Lancero (looked more like a Lonsdale to me). Firm draw, good flavors and different enough from the Frank to enjoy every inch. After the round with the sun settling low in the sky, I smoked a Monte no. 4 Reserva. Very smooth, long finish and beautiful construction. It was a good day.
PS - Thanks again for the Pepin Blue Zachary

Just had an Onyx reserve something or other. The best way to describe this cigar, is if you took a RP Vintage 92, and wrapped it in a chamois that had been aged for a couple years in salt water. The flavors did not mix well, at all. The salty leather flavor was very unwelcomed throughout...at least throughout the amount I actually smoked. Tossed it just past the half way point. This goes on the "Give to Mike" list.

Maybe... Spider = weird, but Beetle = bad. If the hole was neat, rounded & approx 2-3mm in diameter I'd personally do something about it. If you only have a few cigars smoke em quickly or double bag & freeze (1 day in fridge, 2-3+ days in freezer, 1 day in fridge) just to be safe.

"Sorry honey, I'm going to be out here all night. I need to kill the beetles in these cigars."
Here is a picture I took of the bug. I'm not sure what it is...it's so damned small, and too shriveled up to count legs. The picture isn't that great either because my camera is not that great, and does not have a good macro function. It is next to a quarter for size perspective.

I carried it around for a few weeks in the caddy. I really think this helps the draw and evens up the humidity levels throughout the cigar. The more I do this the more I like it over smoking a cigar right from the box. The shorts are definitely a cigar to always have in stock.

Was your caddy like a drybox sort of environment? I know mine tends to run a bit higher but I have 65% bead tubes that I use to keep the humidity up...

Was your caddy like a drybox sort of environment? I know mine tends to run a bit higher but I have 65% bead tubes that I use to keep the humidity up...
When I dry box, I don't like to leave it too long, a day or two, because the wrapper gets brittle quickly, even if the inside is still drying out. My caddy's are probably somewhere between 50% and 65% Rh but have never tested them. The 10 ct just has the foam deal in the cap with distilled water and the 50 ct has 65% sheets top and bottom. I think it just has to do with the overall environment, allowing the cigar to expand if box pressed and the Rh to stabilize through the cigar. I don't really know but I'm going to keep doing it.

I am thinking RyJ Cazadores for tonight. In addition to it being a four day weekend I got a raise today!! First in many years as I have been topped out. This one goes straight into the 401K which totals 20% (6% match 14% all me) of my pay now. So maybe I can retire at 80, you know with the economy and all. :P

I smoked a Vegueros last night that Peter gifted me. It was about 7 X 40 or so. Took a little while to open up but when it did it was a fine smoke. I was surprised at the creaminess of the cigar. good smoke, a little tight , but very earthy, some would say leathery with some bite. A generous CFRH'er gifted it to me so I don't know how much they cost, but if they are in the sub 10 dollar range I would say a pretty good value as well.
right now, my fav Nic puros are
Padron 26 naturals,
Padron 64 Diplomat Maduro
Oliva V, O Maduro
the Padrons are expensive but worth it
the Olivas are worth more than they cost.

Smoking a Boli CE ('98? - old serif font on band) generously gifted by Scott... Draw is a smidge tight to start as I expected, but delivered smoke & a very smooth light earthy/vegetal flavor. Not your typical Boli flavors, but towards the 2nd third the draw is opening significantly and is starting to pick up that deep earth & sweet leather. Burn is razor sharp with a light gray & almost 'fluffy' looking ash. Thanks for this great cigar Scott it is a nice way to finish the afternoon...

That can probably be arranged... but I should let you know I was a tad disappointed with the V maduro. It wasn't complex at all... as a matter of fact only one thing changed during the entire smoke and that was it got a bit ashy toward the end.
It was an OK cigar that had a good flavor and some strength to it but lacked in discernible flavors and definitely needs more age. It had so much tar on it after the first few inches I was literally getting my fingers full of it and had to give it a second clip to remove some of it.

this morning I tried a Bolivar CE, that I got as a single. No lineage, but I beleive it's an older stick. Pretty plugged. So I got out the poker and worked it some. Smokeable but not enjoyable, so in the stinky it went.
little later got an envelope from my brother , he said he was sending me some sticks.
Sadly they were some dog rockets with two siglo 2's mixed in. All of them have been so niglected that they were crumbling in the bag. Still I cut about an inch of the siglo and gave it a shot. Drier than a nuns ...... .
into the stinky it goes. All of it's traveling companions will never see a torch, into the crapper. I did keep one that looks like a Diplomatico knockoff. The label is almost the same but is says something else.
maybe today is a write off ;c(
