I was going through my box and taking the cello off these beauties and I noticed one had a bad crack in the wrapper going about an inch up the side. So it was time to smoke it to fix the problem. :sifone:
My first thoughts on this cigar were good. It had a great appearance and a very nice toothy wrapper. It had great Maduro color and the aroma was awesome.
I clipped this bad boy and took a few pre-light puffs to see what I could taste. It had a great draw and I got the distinct flavor of cocoa, horse do-do and hay. This was definitely a freshie...
After lighting the cigar, I enjoyed the first inch quite a bit. The cocoa was a great flavor and the freshness of the cigar faded a bit.
Getting into the second third of the cigar I was starting to get a bit bored. The cigar still had the same flavors and nothing had really changed including the intensity or complexity. It was about half way in, when I noticed how bad the tar was building up. I showed Ray and he laughed cuz it was quite a LOT of tar. I clipped the end a little bit below the tar and that seemed to end the build up problem. Also, The burn was a bit off the entire way and needed my attention to keep it burning straight.
By the time I got to the last 2 1/2 inches I was thoroughly bored. The cigar flavors were good, but the complexity of this smoke was severely lacking. After smoking it down a bit more the cigar started to get a bit of an ashy flavor and that is when I decided to let it go a bit premature and tossed it in the ashtray.
Overall thoughts:
Was this stick good: Yes, but it was kind of boring.
Would I buy it again: Maybe, not sure if I need more and for $8 a stick I can find better smokes.
conclusion: While a good stick, I would love to see it with some age. I will revisit them in about 6 months and go from there.
