Glad it was good for you Glenn!

I thank two brothers for the cigars I smoked last night. Zach had previously gifted me a PSD5 EL and a Cohiba Lancero. Those were my first two, and complimented each other in their differences. After that, I smoked a Monte Petit Edmundo from Ray. Very pleasant short cigar, with some interesting flavor changes. Thanks guys!! It's too bad I finished with a JLP.

Just finished an LGC No 1. My first of the LGC's. Tasty, tasty & tastier! Thanks Zach.

Hahah... that was your first LGC?? Man I am sooooooo sorry to have to do that to ya.... I'm afraid you're toast now! :pound:

They are seriously a DAMN fine smoke. Matter of fact I would go so far as to say that the LGC #1 and #2 are in my top 5 smokes right now. The #4 and #3 aren't far behind probably in the top 10. They are just a great family of smokes and I would hate for them to be discontinued so I have been doing my part to buy them and promote them... If I get the word that they cancel any of them, I seriously might have to go on an LGC buying spree...

Glad you enjoyed it my friend and you are most welcome.

Quai D'Orsay Corona Claro. Started with a light tangy flavor (citrus?) that mellowed into a leathery rich smoke. Finished light and tangy like it started. Thanks for the intro to this intriguing marca Scott!

Last Friday, I smoked a Monte 1 from Stephan at the annual herf that started slowly but came into it's own nicely even through it's youth, and tonight I smoked a RA Celestiales Finos RE given to me by Doug that was tasty but thoroughly kicked my butt! That was a very strong cigar or my lack of smoking recently made me a mega-lightweight. I'm thinking it was both. Thank you very much guys!!

Oh yeah. My experiment to smoke in the basement tonight didn't turn out so well. The entire house is very pungent.

Last week on the beach in Carmel, shortly before being asked to leave the Pebble Beach golf course ( we snuck up the bluffs from the beach) I enjoyed a Punch Petit Punch from Rich, My first of this vitola, Thanks!

From Zach a nice example of a Sancho Panza Coronas. There is that salt taste again. Maybe because I was expecting it but there it was. Not as Pronounced as in some of the Bachillares I have been gifted but there it was none the less. Thanks Z a very nice smoke all around.

VR Maestros from Scott. Such an excellent earthy, woody and at times a little bit of a spicy cigar. I would say it was a strong cigar, but never approached overpowering. I really enjoyed the clouds of smoke this larger gauged cigar put out, in comparison to my normal 42 and unders. Thank you very much Scott, I've only had a couple VRs...would you say the Maestros is representative of the brand?

moglman
07-06-2010, 11:21 AM
I'm glad you enjoyed it Stefan. I had one last week that was also "on". I would say that the Maestros can represent the marca very well. I say "can" because I have had examples that do remind me of a good classico or famoso. I would expect these to age very well, and with a decade of time, I do think that the coffee, bitter cocoa and cream I look for in other good VR examples will show more over time.

Thanks you, Rich, for the H. Upmann Connnoisseur No 1, gifted at the Annual Herf. I smoked it tonight with a gin and tonic on the porch before the dinner grilling ritual. As I mentioned, I have never tried this one before, but I now have found a new staple for the humidor. Thick, sweet smoke was the constant feature with a progression of flavors from light toast to burnt sugar and jam. Delightful flavors and aroma. The aftertaste goes on and on. Good golly where have you been all my life? Thanks Man.

Dave

This fine weekend I got around to a Vegueros Espaciales No 1 that Zach gifted to me some time back. Nice, light smoke with a hint of citrus zest. Thanks Zach.

Haven't been posting much but I want to thank Peter for two good cigars smoked recently. An '06 Partagas Corona that was better than most I have tried and today I smoked an '01 Punch SS1, really a fantastic cigar!

Just smoked the Cohiba Lancero from Mert. Judging from the band it had a few years and it was very good. Thanks for another great cigar Mert! I'll get you back.

You're welcome. Once again, I hope it wasn't too tight or too dry. That box seemed a bit dry when opened.

OK I have been a bit remiss in letting you all know what pleasure your generous natures have given me lately. So here is a big group hug and shout out to:

Scott - the SCDH Mercederes - I tasted the black cherry. Wonderful flavor I have never had in a cigar before.

Peter - I think it was a Petit Punch; My first. Reminded me why Punch cigars take up the most room in my storage. On a hunt.

Mert - an aged du Roi; Excellent smoke, full of the HDM creaminess.

Doug - a VR Familiars; What can I say I just love these sticks they are so smooth, I got the dry bakers chocolate in spades on this one and that just made my tongue dance a happy dance

Thanks guys.

You are welcome, Glenn! Glad to share these little gems, although I'm sad to say that they were recently chopped by HSA. Another mistake...

Found a gem today. Smoked an AF Anejo Shark I received from Zach some time ago (going on 3.5 years I believe.) Very smooth and not as strong as I was expecting. Nice deep maduro flavors (is it a camaroon wrapper?) with a hint of sweetness. Very nice break in the day. Thanks "Z".

Glad you enjoyed it! Those definitely get better with age. I've got some 06 Anejo #46s that are getting mighty fine.

Another day in paradise or this is how I wasted my afternoon.

Found another jewel in the drawer. AF Anejo 49 (Churchill size) I believe. Once again "Z" was the contributor to my afternoon of pleasure.

A little toothy, dark skinned, oily sheen and just a bit of glitter in the afternoon sunlight (would that be plume?) Was from sometime in 07 if the label on it is to be believed and what tasty treat. Lasted the better part of three hours (I am no Jaime) and held a razor sharp burn the entire smoke. Only one relight, the result of a ten minute phone call from the wife.

I enjoyed this big boy while reading the first third of a favorite book that I have not read in probably 20 years; This is probably my 4th consumption of the title since I first read it in high school; "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert Heinlein. The story nor Heinlein's style never gets old for me.

Anyway, do I regret abandoning the job search for the afternoon? Not in the least. I thoroughly enjoyed the smoke, the relaxation and time spent with a rediscovered book. If this is what retirement is going to be like I can't wait.

Thanks Zack!

Glenn,

Sounds like a wonderful day with a great cigar.

As an armchair detective, I wonder if the following are related....

"Only one relight, the result of a ten minute phone call from the wife."

and

"Anyway, do I regret abandoning the job search for the afternoon?"

Scott (aka Moglman).

Wow - this baby has been sitting in the cool-idor for years (yes, it's been years since we came up for air with the CFRH'ers), and we're sure it could last longer...it's that good. But after a full day of painting, it was just the thing. Fonseca (labeled FRU Oct 06). VERY NICE! And a great way to end the day and remember some great times with some of the best cigar-appreciating friends around. Thanks again, Scott!

Two great finishes today just before the sprinkles started!

Thank you Scott for the RyJ Churchill. Aged to perfection, smooth and not so in my face peppery. Nice smoke.

The read for today was Phil Gordon's "Little Green Book". Some interesting finds in that gem.
