View Full Version : FRH Shirts

We discussed this a bit at the March herf. It was generally agreed that we need shirts for FRH. Fred brought up the idea of Guayabera's which I think is a good idea. Many of the light colored ones are semi-translucent so I would think colors are a must here. Brad said he could get us fishing style shirts for cost. These are nice if they have plenty of pockets, which many do, and no cape over an open mesh back. Two other possibilities are Polos and t-shirts (LS and SS).

All of them can be embroidered, and depending on volume, this may not cost too much. Some of the fishing shirt suppliers can do this or it can be done by a third party. Someone was mentioning they might have a source for embroidery. The t-shirts can be silkscreened of course.

I ask of everyone if there is any one or two people who can take on this task of finding options and prices, getting approval of designs, etc.? I wish I had the time but I just don't right now. Thoughts???

Here are the prices for the shirts without embroidery (that will come later):

Mens Guayabera shirts sm-xl $26.36
Mens Guayabera shirts 2x $29.36

Womens Polo $32.70
Womens Silk $57.75

This includes shipping.

This is something I have started on but didn't want to post on until I had pictures and prices. Here is a copy on the email I sent to my clothing folks:

Shirt (http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=53006&CatID=53025&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=137424e&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CmCatId=53006|53007|53021|53025)
Something like the shirt in the above link, maybe in black without the print. With the attached signature tag link (below) embroidered on one sleeve. Maybe 3/4 by 2 1/2 inch in size. Would need to be able to get the shirts up to 4x for my big ass.

Here is a link to what we are doing.

Signature Tag

Need pricing and a way to order, these folks are comfortable with internet purchasing so if we can get this worked out you could just link to your website for orders.

So that is where I started, then moved to asking about two seperate embroidered patches. Just as it is with the sig tags, I talked about one just for the front rangers and the other being a Troop Supporter patch. We could sell the Troop Supporter patch for maybe a buck more than cost and that way the person that buys it becomes a Troop Supporter at the same time.

So let me know what you think. The shirts can come in many different colors and I can get any style. The patches will be a little more difficult as they will require minimums and cash up front. I am willing to deal with that if you all like the idea.

Personally, I've got more than enough t shirts and polos so another style works for me. Those fishing shirts sound like an interesting alternative. Patches might be a cool way to go too.

Some more thoughts. Just throwing out some ideas.

Patches would be ok but not my first choice for an 'Official' FRH shirt. The Guayaberas and fishing shirts were nice because the have a bunch of pockets for all the cigar accessories you carry at a herf. The shirts in the link look pretty nice, Jamie. Doing the shirts for the troops is a wonderful thing, but separate from what I had in mind. FRH and troop support are both great but I can't say I feel the official FRH shirt should mention the troop support, though people may want both, me included. I think a nice embroidered FRH logo on the chest of a nice shirt would be awesome. The sig tag may not be appropriately sized for that. Something a little bigger could be cool.

I like that.

Wonder if there is any way to work a cigar into the logo too?

Got it, my only worry with embroidery is that embroidery bigger or more complex than a name can degrade the fabric and become misshapen especially on delicate fabric. That is why I started looking at patches. But I am not attached one way or the other.

In an effort to be clear, I was not advocating a shirt for the Troops, only a patch that says Troop Supporter that we could post for sale and add to our shirt if an individual was so inclined, so I think you and I are on the same page with that.

Just for background in my experience with clothing and embroidery, I designed and purchased the clothing for the staff and students (about 1500 people) where I work for eight years. Almost every piece was screen printed or embroidered. I don't do this any longer but still have the contacts, so whether we use one of my ideas or somebody else’s I should be able to help get good pricing and add some value through experience.

Please don't misunderstand my intentions on this, I only want to help get what everybody wants and am not attached to any one idea. Please keep in mind that I will be happy to use my contacts to place a bid on any idea the group would like. The owners of the company I have in mind North Shore Designs (http://www.northshoredesignsinc.com/) are close personal friends of mine that I spent millions of dollars with over the years and will be behind anything to support the Troops and therefore will work hard to keep cost to a minimum.

Here are a couple of examples that I like:

I trust your experience, Jamie, and I'll go along with anything. I was just bringing up some thoughts. I do like the idea of the troop supporter patch to help raise funds. I think your direction for the shirts is nothing short of excellent. Thank you very much for the time and effort!! It's appreciated.

Thanks Scott, the first thing I will check on is if the embriodery will work directly on the left chest of the shirt. Will you send me a copy of the file you used to post in this thread of the enlarged FRH art in jpeg format please?

I like this shirt... I would definitely be in full support of an 'official' FRH shirt!

Just another thought... How about adding a womens polo or tshirt into the mix? I am guessing that we have a few ladies that would be interested... ?

Here are a few if we can get the ladies to chime in, I will ask Colleen if she likes any but maybe Dawn and Carolyn could take a look and anybody else that could get their significant others opinion it would surly help. Good call Peter.

Update

Here is where I am right now.

I asked for a sample of this (http://guayaberashirt.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3) shirt in black to be sent to me with the embroidery left chest. This is a different shirt than the one in the picture but it comes in all of the sizes we need and is a great price even retail. It's a little hard to see in the picture but it is a four pocket shirt like the other one just without the fancy embroidered stripes. NSD will be able to get them wholesale so my hope is that we will be around $25 or less. NSD said that they would waive the setup charge for digitizing if our first order is two dozen or more (woohoo). The sample shirt will be in my size so if it isn't what everybody wants I am only out the cost of a shirt that I can wear.

Just need the final art and I will get this done.

I sent you the jpg I posted, Jamie. Can others please either get some ideas (images) up for embroidery, or give comments on the posted chest image? The jpg sent to Jamie doesn't cut off the bottom as seen in the above post. I think it'd be cool to have a smoldering cigar incorporated somewhere.

Well here is the shirt. We are still working on the art a bit but Fred, Peter, Scott and I all really like the shirt. Now we need to get some commitments so we can get an order placed. These run a bit small so you may want to go up one size.

The art was not the quality we are looking for but we are going to fix that. I have asked about changing to a high quality patch. Now these aren't grandmas patches these are very nice. I have put links to the shirt and a patch that we will try to match quality on.

How a bit small? I usually dress out in a XL but during my largeness or certain, these fit small, shirts I've done XXL. At the same time, in the summers I usually can fit an L. So.....how small is a bit small?

I fit into the unwashed XL just fine with another shirt on underneath, but will be getting a 2XL just in case and for comfort.

Post your commitment here.

I'll take Qty:2 size XXL shirts

Hey folks,

Just catching up on all the great stuff for the FRH shirts -- sorry it's taken so long. Incredibly busy with the new job, family commitments and frankly all the other board communications (cigar-related and non) we decide to be involved in.

Reading through this thread, I think Todd would be in for an XL, if they run one size small. Question: Is the patch separate or already applied? Wondering if there is the option to put the patch on the sleeve instead of the front above the pocket (seems like there is a lot going on with the pockets and the beautiful stitching and all...).

Regarding the women's shirts, I love the silk (of course!) in black, white or blue [attachment=0:2625lfyw]silkBlouse-RedHouse_RH20.JPG[/attachment:2625lfyw] (http://www.companycasuals.com/northshoredesigns/b.jsp?id=500365&parentId=623) - probably will need dry cleaning, right? Bummer to add more chemicals to the environment...but may not be an option. Again, if the patch able to go on the sleeve since silk is such a delicate material?

Cheers,
Carolyn

Great to hear from you Carolyn,

I think a patch would come separate. If we get them in time we may be able to have them attached for those who want. I agree that the patch may look better on the sleeve. Dawn came up with a different shirt that she liked but I don't think it matters, I should be able to just get each lady what they like. I will PM you the one Dawn likes.

Fred, would you please pass this on to the others? For some reason the computer I am using won't let me get to the find a member area.

The order went in this morning for one dozen shirts as only a few replyed to the PM for commitments. The order is for 6 xxl, 4 xl and 2 large.

The patches look like they might take awhile so it is unlikly that we will have them for the herf. I am working hard to get them by the herf but it may not happen but it is still my goal. I have one xl shirt with the embroidery that you all have seen that could be used for the BABOTL.
