Mark gifted me this cigar, which I now can't remember if it was the Toro or the Robusto (sorry, Mark!). CAO and I have a bit of a love hate relationship, and I don't really like the majority of their cigars. Lit this up today, and I am going to have to reevaluate my opinion of CAO a bit.
According to CAO's website:
Wrapper: Connecticut
Binder: Brazil
Filler: Nicaragua, Dominican Rep., Honduras, and Peru.
It has a nice dark, oily wrapper that seemed to promise maduroey goodness. The Mx2 was well constructed, and had a very solid feel to it. The pre-light aroma had hints of coffee. The draw was a bit tighter than I prefer, but nothing that couldn't be managed.
Upon lighting the cigar there were strong earthy flavors. My poor palette was picking up coffee and cocoa. So far it was a very nice medium bodied smoke. The ash was a light gray and very tight. The ash did not want to fall off.
As I got further into the stick the same earthy flavors remained, still dominated by coffee and cocoa. At about the halfway point there started to be some burn issues, but they were easily fixed.
All the way to the end this was a consistent stick. I'm not very good at assigning numerical scores, but this is a very nice cigar. I haven't had a maduro in a while, and it now has me thinking about the other maduro cigars I have stashed away. This stick will not disappoint if you're looking for a good medium bodied maduro cigar. This from a guy who doesn't really like CAO. Thank you Mark for a great cigar. I nubbed this thing down to the end.
