Hey Henry,
I'm not sure if you are looking for specific dishes, but there are quite a few middle eastern restaurants around the DU area... Here is a couple I have tried/know about -
http://jerusalemrestaurant.com/ - A DU institution... The lamb shanks & combo plates are awesome. Bottom line - this is not a fancy/classy restaurant by any means, but the food & service is (generally) good. I have mostly eaten there after stumbling out of other local establishments at 1:30-2am. You can check out some reviews here (click) (http://www.yelp.com/biz/jerusalem-restaurant-denver#hrid:eOPF1RMD0MnizdbrmWFAGg).
http://www.houseofkabobrestaurant.com/ - I have mostly been here for lunch. Nice sized dining room (not big, not small) with reasonably attentive service (generally). Food has always been great for me. The lamb 'sandwich' (chunks of seared lamb in garlic yoghurt sauce) is to die for. You can check out some reviews here (click). (http://www.yelp.com/biz/house-of-kabob-denver)
http://marrakechgrill.com/ - Relatively new place... Probably the best in terms of atmosphere (eg romantic/birthday dinner). Sounds great & is always busy (as well as the hookah bar next door), BUT we haven't tried it yet. I believe Scott has eaten there & had good things to say. Reviews (click). Damascus Restaurant (click) (http://denver.citysearch.com/profile/1847686/denver_co/damascus_restaurant.html) - I have only eaten their food at functions they catored, so I can't comment on the restaurant itself (although the previous 2 places are in the same strip mall). Food was good, but I'd probably go to House of Kabob if choosing between the two just because I know it better. You can check out some reveiws here (click). Dawn & I also eat at http://www.yahalagrill.com/ (actually went there last night), but I'm not sure I could/would recommend it to friends. The service really stinks (one reviewer rightly referred to it as "glacial"), atmosphere is sub-par, service really stinks (get my drift), but the food is cheap & tasty. Sometimes you put up with a lot for a $20 dinner out!
Hope that helps!

Had lunch a little while back at the Marrakech grill and there was nobody there at the noon hour. I had the beef Shawarma, my friend had chicken, and am sorry I didn't leave with several to go. I hear it gets crazy busy for dinner.

Being from the middle East I should know good Mediterian Food.
I been to most of the resturants in Denver.
A friend of mine opened up a resturant on Orchard and Belview, by far he makes the best food from scratch. Also he serves Baklava and other great stuff.
He makes the best Shawerma Humus and Flafel plus Chicken, Lamp and Beef.
Hope this will help you, would love to buy your lunch over there if you ever have time.

I think Mert and I were talking about trying to do some poker on Saturday nights once in awhile down at the SC... I am sure I could commit to 1-2 saturdays per month. :D

FYI - I'ts at Orchard and University. That restaurant opened up in what used to be my favorite Chinese place. I don't want to be a pain in the ass - I just don't want anyone to get lost trying to find the place.
