Finally got a second screen for the fireplace at the apartment. Since it didn't come with doors Sally Beth was feeling uneasy about lighting a fire with the cat around. With the second screen there's no problem (not that there was one to begin with).

I've heard that you can sit next to the fireplace when there's a fire and the cigar smoke will be drawn up and out. Well, I'm testing it out. Just with a butt load of incense to start with (she absolutely hates the smell of incense). I've set it a couple feet away, and I can see the smoke going straight up the chimney. The real test will be if she can smell it in the morning.

If this works, then I need to go stock up on firewood. :sifone:

All I can say is good luck Daniel... If we don't hear from you today, we'll know why :sifone:

So far so good. Not a hint of incense this morning, and that's according to her nose and not mine. Next step is to light up a cigar inside. I'll either need to invest heavily in firewood, or in bandages.

Sounds like you have an ideal situation going... I unfortunately will never smoke a cigar inside of the house we have now... but when we move to a bigger house in 5-10 years I get my built in humi, wine cellar, and a smoking room. :D

Keep us posted on your developments cuz I am curious to see how well it works! :D

Zach, when that happens you'll be living the dream. :salute:

I think that the only way that the fireplace will work is if I sit right in front of it. Not an ideal solution, but seeing as I'm from NC, sitting outside in -5 degree weather is out of the question. :th_dancing-chicken:

It's 70 degrees outside...what are you talking about? :) I have used the fireplace method before when smoking cigarettes in an apartment, and you do have to be right in front of it, blowing your smoke into it, holding the cigar close enough for the smoke to get sucked up. You'll also need to toss your nub into the fire when finished, or the smell will get into your apartment. I hope it works out for you...wouldn't want you in the freezing sub 80 degree weather!!!

Meanwhile I'm out on my deck working on my tan...

To be fair it was colder than $hit last weekend... but it is a damn fine day out today... I wonder who we have to thank for this fine weather.

Whoever it is, they're mocking me. Been stuck in classrooms all week.

Okay, it worked.... sorta :new_rofl:

For the first thirty minutes I was absolutely anal about staying close to the fireplace and smoking into it, and then I said screw it and just sat within about a foot of the fire and just smoked. This morning, I was told that there was a bit of a bad smell, like I had burned something. She doesn't know what was burned, so it could be the duraflame log since those smell pretty bad too. This thing took forever to light. The wrapper burned up, and then nothing, so I had to find some scrap paper and light the sucker like normal.

I am calling this a success.

But I think it needs more power, time to pick up some real firewood.
