There is a 50’s pop song with the philosophical question; “Does the bubblegum lose it’s flavor on the bedpost overnight?

That is the basis of my question to the crew. How long is too long between lights? How long after you set it down and under what circumstances will you relight a partially smoked stick? 10 Minutes? 30 minutes? Overnight?

I think my personal habits tend toward the tactile reasons we smoke cigars. I have never been a chewing tobacco user but I like the texture (and residual flavors) I experience when I “chew” on a stick from the previous evening’s drive as I drive in to work the next morning (not to mention the nicotine buzz I get while doing such… lol.) On occasion, if the remainder is sizable enough (and depending on the stick itself), a relight the following morning produces a quick enjoyable smoke.

What are your limits?

I don't think I could wait overnight before relighting.

I've never really gone much longer than 30 minutes before a relight. I tend to only smoke when I know I can put aside enough time for a cigar so it's very rare when I can't finish what I've started.

I'm With Daniel... I could wait about 30 minutes or so if I let it go out and needed a break to eat or something.... but I couldn't let it sit overnight. I would give it an early death if I didn't finish it.

10-15 Min here. Once it's out, out-out no smoldering inside. The taste goes to shit.

Pretty much the same. If I'm enjoying a smoke, I know I better smoke all that I want because it won't taste the same if re-lit beyond a short window. If I need a nic kick in the morning, I'll light a mini.

only a couple times have I re-lit next day. I purged the stick and let it go out. While it was not as good next day, it was not too bad either. So , on occasion I would be ok to do this. However, 98% of the time I lite a smoke , I go through it to the end. That is my prefered method.

I'll have to look into this... usually, I will pitch a smoke if it goes out or if I run out of time.
I have never had a stick taste the same after being re-lit.

What about when they go out a few times while you are trying to smoke it? I have had a few CCs do that and it gets pretty old... I will light them a few times, but after I get tired of it I will toss the stick...

Normally if it keeps going out I'll just stick with it to about the band. Unless it's a really good tasting cigar, then I'll burn my fingers relighting the nub.

Well I think it is all a matter of taste to the one smoking it. If I have a smoke I am enjoying and I have to let it go out more than 20 minutes then I will cut the ash end off to give it a clean end then take a torch lighter and give the end of the cigar a bright cherry, then putting the cigar to your lips I will give the cigar a few puffs out (like blowing through a straw) with the lighter still applied to the end. what you are doing is warming the crystals that form in the cigar and blowing them out when they had a chance to warm slightly. blowing with the lighter at the end will help draw the built up and crystals out to the heat.

The cigar will always have a off taste after the cigar itself cools down because you are changing the dynamic of the tobacco when you give it a chance to dehumidify.

You will find a time limit that you can tolerate and a dryness of the cigar that you will still enjoy.

No matter what, enjoy the cigar for what it is, Personal enjoyment...

Im a cheep bastage and usually try to go to the nub......if the taste is too far off I will pitch it.

Things I do if I have to let one go out.

1 Ash it.
2 purge it good. and set it in the tray.

Yeah, I know what ya mean..... I have to recant on what I said before.....
If it goes out during normal smoking (due to my lack of attention) I'll relight immediately and be more diligent in my smoking... if it still goes out again...compost.

I'm not a very patient smoker and figure if something goes wrong either I did something wrong, the cigar wasn't ready to smoke, or it just wasn't meant to be.
I look at smoking as a brief time of relaxation and enjoyment. Relighting, correcting uneven burns, and tight draws are too much like work and there is to be no work while I am smoking!
