I love hockey! Two of my sons have played the game since they were about 4 or 5 (now they are 20 and almost 18). The older one Al Jr. plays for Penn State and Mitch just graduated HS is taking a year off from college to play another year of Juniors (dad hopes he gets an offer from a good school, all prayers for this to happen are welcome :D)

Alina and I are Ranger fans, Jr. loves the Wings (has since birth) and Mitch is an Avs fan (also since birth).

So who are the hockey nuts here?

Wish I could say I was a nut...but I used to play a good bit of pond hockey when I was growing up in Upstate NY not long ago. Had a lot of fun despite getting my ass kicked around the ice by all of legit hockey playing friends...a few of them played for Minute Men Flames when they were younger and now play in college. I always remembered that team name, they had some badass jackets too! Are you familiar with that team at all, are they still around?

Anyway, besides that I wish I got back into the NHL a little more...it is my favorite sport to attend. HS, College and Pro...Went to a lot of River Rats games in Albany and got kicked out of a bunch of my HS team's games too...we would get pretty rowdy.

Sorry I can't talk stats with you, but I am a fan of the game.

Upstate NY? Albany?

Born and raised in Cooperstown myself.

As for that Flames team I think they are from MA?.

Yea they are from MA I think.

Me, Schenectady...well Niskayuna actually, but it's the same zip as Schenectady and no one knows the Niskayuna suburb.

Are you an Ommegang fan (not to turn this into a beer thread)?

Hockey...I miss the pick-up game atmosphere back east...although there is a Zambonied lake up in Keystone, CO where there are pick up games all the time, it really is a blast.

My name's Dave and I'm an Avs fan. I hate to admit it but my GF's family are rabid Wings fans.

Used to play in house leagues until the third knee injury, now I just watch.

Been following Hockey since the early 80's. I have followed the Avalanche since day 1 and still continue to follow the Chicago Blackhawks and got to meet Bobby Hull in person around 13 years ago :nhl_checking:

Grew up in Phoenix watching Roadrunner Hockey - "Football on the Rocks!" was their marketing slogan...

Cool!

Have been lucky to meet a few old timers. I guess the most famous player I ever met and shook his hand was Gordie Howie.

One of my youngest sons coaches is Brain Mullen. Great guy.

I bet it was great metting Mr. Hockey! When the all star game was here in 2001 I missed meeting him at the fan convention. I got to see Brian's brother Joe become the first American born player to score 500 goals with the Pens (scored on Patrick Roy!).

Not to revive the thread, but I'm a big time hockey fan myself. Played since I was 4 up through high school and a bit of college club. Currently playing in a beer league in the RMHL. If anyone is ever interested in joining a league, we always seem to need a few players when the season starts.

Cheers,
Brad

Ooooh, tempting. But after the last knee injury, I sold a good bunch of my gear to keep me from playing anymore. Too old to heal fast anymore.

I have a good knee brace for you when I busted my ACL. We'll get you some second hand gear and your good to go.

I'm putting you on the roster for next year :) Just kidding.

Cheers,
Brad

I try to play hockey, but never played for a regular team. I do like to hit up Evergreen Lake and play some pond hockey each winter. I used to live pretty close to it, so I still try to make it up a few times a year. I played in a couple Canadian Hockey League touries, but can't say I did very well (considering they were the first time I ever played in full pads, and they were in Vegas, and we were quite hung over).

I would love to join a league though, but wouldn't want to bring a time down.
