It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. With a temp of 50 degrees it would be a crime to waste it indoors, luckily on Tuesdays I get to do my work from home. So it's time to review the next Ambos Mundos cigar.
The #1 uses a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper as opposed to the #2 which uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. These cigars use Grade B tobacco, but the only issue should be cosmetic. While I didn't notice anything on the #2, on this cigar I found some green spots (saw about 4) and a couple of large veins. Tried to get a picture of a spot: Still, the wrapper is silky and a bit oily to the touch. Lit up, and this time I think I managed not to mess up the light. The first thing that hits me is that it isn't as much harshness as the other two. After a couple of minutes the characteristic pepper of a Pepin blended cigar shows up, but is a bit subdued and remains like that for the rest of the cigar. Not in my face, just sort of in the background. The predominant flavors here is an earthy leathery taste, but I like that so I'm golden. There is a hint of cocoa/coffee, but then again what do I know. The construction is impeccable, I get about halfway before I think I should ash, and the ash falls straight off with a slight tap. Flavors are remaining constant throughout the cigar. Not very complex, but then again neither am I. While I kept thinking that the #2 was young and a bit harsh, I'm not finding this with the #1. I even tried to nose exhale, but that was a mistake. The ammonia and harshness that I got off the snorkle bely the cigars youngness. In the end it started getting hot and harsh even though I was really trying to smoke it slowly. Ended up putting it down and not nubbing it. Overall, I liked this cigar. There is real potential here. I would like to see how it does after resting for a few months (this one was in the cooler for three weeks at 65% after getting it at HMS). I don't think it is as complex as the #2, but I think it's a bit more balanced. |

Hey Daniel,
thanks to you, I went out and bought the Cannon sd 1200is. What a great camera. Next time I see you I need help with the settings because your pics still look better than mine. Thanks again Sean

I'd love to make it down to the Smoking Cave, but I've got comps next week so it may be a little while before I do.
All I used for the pics above was use the auto setting. Beyond I tried to keep the camera steady and make sure that the sun wasn't directly in front of the camera. |
